Mythra
The original persona of the Aegis, wielding the speed and power of light.
Mythra is one of the two primary personalities of the legendary Aegis Blade in Xenoblade Chronicles 2, sharing a single body with her counterpart Pyra. Known as Hikari in Japan (meaning 'light'), she contrasts sharply with Pyra's gentle nature through her impulsive and outspoken temperament. Voiced by Shino Shimoji in Japanese and Skye Bennett in English, Mythra serves as the original persona, while Pyra was created later to limit her immense power. This duality allows the character to switch between forms during gameplay, offering players a unique mechanic where Mythra specializes in faster, combo-oriented light-based abilities, complementing Pyra's slower, high-damage fire attacks.

Lore & Background
Mythra is an autonomous being summoned from a Core Crystal, functioning as a Blade with the Driver Rex. Originally created to hold immense power, her existence was split when Pyra manifested as an alternative personality to restrain Mythra's capabilities. The two share one body but possess distinct temperaments; while Pyra is calm and protective, Mythra is more aggressive and direct. Their connection is deepened by intentional design asymmetries that mirror their incomplete state relative to one another. At the end of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, both characters sacrifice themselves to stop the World Tree from destroying Alrest. However, they are resurrected in separate bodies for a conclusive ending. In the sequel, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, a photograph reveals that Mythra has a child with Rex, though the identity of this child remains unknown.
In Their Own Story
Mythra first appears later in Xenoblade Chronicles 2's narrative, awakening from within Pyra during a critical battle against Jin's allies, Malos and Akhos. Her emergence marks a turning point where the split between the two personalities becomes apparent to Rex. Throughout the story, control of their shared body switches at different points, reflecting the emotional and tactical needs of the moment. Following the game's climax, where they prevent the World Tree's collapse by sacrificing themselves, Monolith Soft executive producer Tetsuya Takahashi confirmed their return was a deliberate choice to provide closure rather than leaving an ambiguous ending. Years later, in Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed, Mythra is shown as having raised a child with Rex, continuing her legacy alongside Pyra and their teammate Nia.
Reader's Guide
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, released as downloadable content in March 2021 due to fan demand, Mythra functions as a joint fighter alongside Pyra. Players can switch between them during battles to utilize distinct playstyles: Mythra focuses on rapid, combo-heavy light attacks, while Pyra handles heavy fire damage. To accommodate the game's all-ages rating and broader audience, Masahiro Sakurai directed revisions to her design, adding significant covering around the chest and legs compared to her original appearance in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Despite technical limitations preventing Rex from appearing as a separate fighter alongside Pyra, this dual-character mechanic successfully represented both personas within system constraints.
